February 16

Everyone
·         Opening – BE engaged.  Freeze with energy. Eyes on exit sign.
·         We need snaps somewhere else – think about where. After funeral monologues?
·         Someone help Sheriff and Tiny change clothes.
·         When Jack says, “Yeah, I know.” – there was a pregnant pause.  It says that Sadie sings “Ain’t Misbehavin”  We could have the men sing there.  It is on page 10 before scene 8.
·         Picnic scene – Sadie say to Jack – turning back toward him – What’s gotten into him?
·         When Sadie says, “Sap? Hell, you go on – Every man a king should start immediately.
·         Scene -13 – the crowd is the transition.  YOU have to be loud as soon as Jack says to Anne –“I’m sorry.” Crowd needs to be immediate behind the flag moving on around.  Some will hang around others wave at Willie and move on off.
·         Cut – Scene 15 – Sadie – Damn you & start with Jack’s Has Mac Murphee got anything?
·         Song – Glory – needs more strength – be confident
·         Willie has layers – everyone else needs them no matter how small the parts.
·         Crowd noises before the telegrams arrive.
·         What actresses need magnets in their dresses?
·         We need to decide when funeral ends so that you freeze.
·         Shall we gather at the river – louder
·         Boo – different reactions – it was weird – began together and ended together and everyone said the same thing.
Jack
You need more confidence. You need to command the stage from the get go.
Editor
Stand up and be powerful.
Elijah
Freida loves your voice!
Rednecks
Need levels
Someone DS on knee
Energy dies at times in this scene.
Lucy, Willie, Jack
This scene dies at the end.
Lucy
Change pacing of dialogue
At the end, face the audience until Willie says the line that he is going back to you, then turn to him.
Funeral scene
Freeze – Voices must “reek” tragedy
Willie and Sadie
After spoon fed sap – What to do?  I like carrying Sadie off – she giggles and comes back in buttoning up her blouse.  How do we get Willie to change quickly?
We need to see your journey – being in love then Sadie being in love and Willie being in love with Anne.
Sadie
Your monologue on page 15 before scene 11 should be triumphant.
Editor
You have to stand up straight and be cocky.
Music
Questions about cues 5 & 6.
Tiny, Sugar Boy, Willie, Jack, Sadie
React when Hugh quits.
Tiny, Sugar Boy, Willie, Jack, Sadie
React when Willie says – Lucy’s leaving me.
Willie – a beat after that before you say it isn’t Sadie.
React to Adam taking the job and Adam getting up.
Vocals are needed in this scene.
Sadie and Jack
We need more build up.
Anne and Jack
Could have married me – Jack almost touches her face.
Anne and Sadie
Singing transition – a little louder
Anne
Louder – I don’t know what scene.
Lily
Your body needs to match your voice.  We need vocals before, during and after.
Jack
Bigger with the letter.  The letter is a problem.
I can never ask him BEAT why.
Look at the last line.
Jack and the Judge
Remember everything you did in the critique.
Read the letter – stop and look at Jack    both look away
I wouldn’t hurt you but I could stop you
Dolph
Great job as Dolph and great job as a surrogate judge.
He gets biggity – consonants – hit them
Sugar boy and tiny
Don’t change behind the flag.  It is too cluttered back there

  1. Personally I liked what I did last night better than what I have been trying to do. I think that I will begin to pull off my character as more condescending rather than trying to be brutish. For one I think it will add more depth to my character and I think that I will be more easily able to pull it off.
