February 22, 2015 (this is Thursday’s critiques. If you did it right, I omitted the
problem. For the most part, the problems
weren’t corrected) Blog grades on February 12, 19 and today – must be in by 1PM.
Step on lines (this was only good in the
redneck scene)
·
Women –
no fingernails or toenails painted on Thursday.
·
You
heard Brooke – everyone needs to be different ESPECIALLY in crowd scenes.
·
After
the scene, Old friends, good times, the CROWD is the transition from that
scene to the Job of a lifetime scene.
·
Can’t
do without me – crowd and noise (Nathan was the only one we heard, but it
cannot be a laugh)
·
At the capitol scene, Anne oohs Glory glory
Hallelujah after “rich man.” Payton
will do this
·
Who
holds the sign for Mac Murphee so that Willie can grab it. Judge.
You have that
·
Everyone else does the staggered turns.
·
Walking is too loud, girls.
·
After The Old Maid scene, Anne Oohs Aint
Misbehavin
·
After The Secret with Lily, oooh Glory Glory
Hallelujah
·
People noises in crowd scene – hair of the dog
– you are responsible for your own props in picnic scenes. Popcorn, soda pop, beer, taffy, cotton
candy, etc.
·
People in back impeachment signs in the back
of the Hugh scene. We need to work on that.
Seems like some would be in front as well making it hard for Hugh to
cross. Paige, Nathan & Maky be in
front.
·
In bad
speech, Paige, Maky and Hugh stay on so that not everyone leaves at once.
·
More people in DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS cross after Anne and Jack scene.
·
Booing Tiny sounds the same – Maky – shout Judas.
Judge is the only one who boos. Jacob –
get out of here. ETC.
·
People passing through – maybe with an
impeachment paper between Adam scene and before Adam accepts the job.
·
I have it – ooh Glory Glory
·
I got me a gospel – EVERYONE INCLUDING WILLIE SINGS
EVERY MAN A KING.
·
I KNOW
I’VE WRITTEN THIS BEFORE BUT MRS. K WROTE IT ALSO – THE CROWD NOISE IS THE
TRANSITION BETWEEN SADIE SAYING HE CAN’T DO WITHOUT ME AND WILLIE SAYING THEY
TRIED TO RUIN ME AND THEY ARE RUINED……
·
Lucy start oohing Glory glory with the rich
man the crowd needs to be angry
because people are trying to impeach Willie.
·
If you have read this far, text to Couch
470-9940 – I am serious about OAP
·
AFTER
JACK IS IN LILY’S APARTMENT, AND HE ASKS WHERE IS IT, OOH GLORY GLORY
…INSTEAD OF EVERYMAN A KING.

MacMurphee
needs diction each time his name is said.
·
Everyone
sing Humpty Dumpty behind flag(Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall. HD had a great fall STOP) and fade when Crony 2 says Boss,…..
·
Keep
Willie scene #28, but no words – just a crowd passing through. Jack stops and
speaks to willie.
·
No
noise putting up ladder.
·
Freezes
during hospital speech were bad.

CUTS
|
Mother – Say this – Jack, your father left us when you were six years
old.I explained that Daddy had gone away.
You looked up and said, Mother I’ll always love you.
Willie – A man goes away from his home and the voices he hears are
not the voices he carried in his ears a long time back when he left. He cannot hear the voices from the past saying
–Come back, boy, come back.
Jack :say – Let’s just try this on for size, Mr. Dolph Pillsbury,
county commissioner stated that the bid of JH Moore for the construction of
the school was accepted even though….
Mother – Say I know it was wrong but I loved Monty Irwin.
Judge – say Nothing is ever lost and all those dead in the past never
lived before our definition gives them life.
Cut Hugh’s last line in the play about the telegraphs.
Dolph – Cut and it ain’t nobody’s business.

When Willie leaves, kiss Anne on the cheek. Anne, we must hear a bigger reaction when

Jack, Tiny, Sugar Boy, Sadie, Willie
|
React more VOCALLY when Adam accepts the job and when he speaks of a

Make sure that you are not using the same motions in the office

predictable. Willie, you loosen
your tie and roll up sleeves each time.
Have the decanter on the desk and use it. Tiny – take a drink often. Sugar boy – clean your gun. Sadie – fix your hair, lipstick, etc.
Need to see Tiny and Sugar Boy moving in different directions so it
is not predictable. Read the

fun, but as the impeachment comes, no more magazines, laughs, etc.
Sugar boy, be careful that you hands are not always on your hips.
Laugh differently

Honestly, i don't think that everyone looks the same in the scene. It might be because I already know the background, I'm not sure. This looks like a simple way to make the fake ice: cubeshttp://alphamom.com/family-fun/holidays/april-fools-ice/ is there an oven in Mr's.holcombe's room we could use to make this? Also sadie can practice having a seductiver walk by crossing your feet in front of each other when walking. You can practice just by tapeing a line on the ground and each time you take a step make sure you step on either side of the line. I'm not sure if that makes sense, you can just ask me if you don't understand.
ReplyDeletemrs holcombe does have an oven and I'm sure she'd let us use it! also, I think the warm ups are a lot better actually... and all of us.. but a few.... have taken it more seriously, woop. I think it's far time we step up and take charge because I don't want to put so much time in just to be let down by a few people.
Deletethanks
ReplyDeleteCompetition is approaching very quickly and we are far from ready. We are finally figuring out the back scenes, and they will be very good once we can all hit the cues which has been a problem for us lately. This will be a great show and we are almost over the wall that we hit at the first clinic, so we cant stop now when we are so close to having a great show.
ReplyDeleteCora and I were talking about this, it's gotten to the point were their lines sound a little too rehearsed. They need more emotion
ReplyDeleteYesterday's rehearsal was really good and Jared gave us a lot to think about. We still need to work on our characterization for the head judge at area. Also we still need to work on our people noises in the crowd scenes. -Brooke
ReplyDeleteI know that this is going to be long, but I have a lot to say so just bear with me. First thing I am going to say is that everyone needs to start taking One Act more seriously. We do everything for a reason. That reason is to get better so that we can make it to state and quite honestly watching our show right now, it is not a state worthy play. Furthermore, there was a miscommunication between me and Brodie in our first scene together. He was unsure about some of the cuts, and I told him that I was finished. However, I meant I was finished with my line and not the scene so he just left. I, honestly thought that this actually worked well, except I know that several people change during that scene, so I was wondering what you wanted to do. Second, all of our blocking is off now, because of McGoogan and his wheel chair. I understand that it is not his fault and I sympathize with him, but our blocking has changed. We need to go back in and rework all of the scenes. Not only is our placement now off (as demonstrated by me falling down yesterday), but our levels also need help. Third, we must work on our transitions scenes. They are slow and really make the show drag. Everyone must rush onstage so that we can pick up with the lines that we need. Also everyone must make some form of people noise while we the crowd is the transition. Fourth, I have been watching the funeral scene from offstage quite frequently lately and that freeze is just the worst. Nobody starts together, nor do they freeze together. Everyone freezes in the same position and nobody seems to hold their freeze. Either someone's hand shakes, the umbrellas move, or they wobble to and fro. All of these things ruin what could be a beautiful freeze. Fourth, we need to establish a difference between characters. As of right now, everyone is walking the same as everyone else and the same as themselves. Everyone must be distinct or the judge will begin to shift around our characters. Sydney and I have tried to fix this problem with our warm ups, but nobody has changed anything. Not only must we be different than everyone else, but we must see a drastic contrast in the multiple characters that one actor plays. I would like to conclude by saying that despite what I wrote I believe that we can go onto state. We definitely have the potential we, just have to rise to the performance.

ReplyDeleteOrby is right that we need to have to people noises. It is too quiet during the crowd scenes that it looks like we have multiple funerals going on.
ReplyDeleteOur charaterization is improving, yet it is still not where it needs to be in order to make it to state. The crowd scenes can set us apart form other schools and we have to use this to our advantage. People noise are weak. The judges will rip us to shreds if we don't do them. Silent movie scenes need to be eliminated all together. Coming out on time is a must at this point, because district is not far away. Another thing that happened tonight was rushing lines. Last year at district the judges noticed, and it hurt us.
ReplyDeleteAt this point everyone should know who their character is and every detail about their lives this wil make our lines sound less rehearsed because it won't be you saying the line it'll be the character
ReplyDeleteRemember to react physically and mentally to each speech and each line either good or badly
ReplyDeleteI need to work on crowd scenes and characterization to where I'm not the same as everyone else
ReplyDeletePaiges dress is too modern and sode lights need to wait till Austin cant be seen to tun on the light
ReplyDeleteThere are a few transitions that are lacking in speed and people noises. If we get these transitions done well get the time down and it will complete our performance. The transitions are a huge part of a play.
ReplyDeleteat the funeral scene when yall pause make sure Mac hugs Payton first before he does anything else. Also when payton and Mac go up the steps to talk she could point over to Sadie and Mac can just brush it off. This will show the jealousy more.
ReplyDeleteWe're getting better every practice we just need more work! We're adding new things into it as we go so we just have to start getting used to them (heels) practice makes perfect! I think we need to take the practice time we have more seriously and I'm guilty of this too but towards the end we just all seem like we want to go home when we should be pushing through to the very end! This is a great play with great potential and I can't wait to see where it goes!!
