Rehearsal 1, January 6th

Notes
  • Jack - at the beginning, look down, then up then over toward mom at the beginning. When speaking about the web, picture in your mind what you are trying to say.  Look at The Vow when Channing Tatum is doing a monologue - ask Sydney "I hear tell... " we must know that you are putting on a persona that you are not used to.  You went to an Ivy League Law school and passed the bar.  This  is a fun experience for you.
  • Men  and women - Let's put Brooke in to talk to Local 3. You have to be realistic, so you have to "pretend" to talk about things that would matter in rural Louisiana during the summer.  Sweat drips off you.  There are mosquitos the size of wasps.  You bathe once a week maybe.  Most people are farmers.   If you are not believable, it won't work.
  • Mother - you are the first voice we hear.  You must be dynamic. The lines must be heartfelt.  If you don't get it right, we are lost first rattle out of the box.   Right now you sound like a freshman.  If you have not watched the movie or read the book, you need to.
  • Tristin - penumony must be natural.  Steam heat must be said lower and like you are saying something repugnant -
  • Willie - wise guy - ask Sydney - watch the movie.  I have ordered two - one a documentary of Huey Long and the other an old PBS VHS movie starring John Goodman.  I want you to be Willie Stark.
  • Editor - more authoritative.   Busy and wealthy.  You look down at Jack because he had the chance to be an attorney and isn't.
Good first rehearsal.  Remember that we have to get better every time you walk through the doors of the auditorium.  We will have rehearsal from 6:30-9 Thursday.   Teresa and Ms. Griffis will work with you on Sunday.  Monday, we will have rehearsal, but it will be the scenes without the freshmen.

  1. Here all of my critiques from our classroom rehearsals.
    Tristin sounds too rehearsed.
    Stage business.
    Andrew sounds to rehearsed.
    Watch straight lines.
    Slipping into a southern accents.
    Don't have audible people noises.
    Brodie is all profile.
    Don't speak so monotone.
    Louder- Woody.
The judges will kill its off we only have southern accents some of the time.
Keep interest in the scene even if you aren't talking.
    Have a purpose.
Don't back up- Brodie- it weakens your character.
