Some of these are the alternates’ notes. Some are Ms. Green’s. Some are mine.
I think people are confused with the timing. The times are for a 39:15 show. If you are never over 45 seconds, you don't need to worry. In spite of being rushed, we saw some of the best work ever - Crowd scenes were finally amazing. It was crazy toward the end - several mistakes.

All actors need leading gestures to
differentiate them from other actors.
·
Gestures must be big.
·
Levels – vocally
·
React
·
Levels – physically – he is big on dominant
people standing and others are in different positions
·
Must see emotions in faces
·
Must see the conflict physically as well as
mentally emotionally
·
Relationships are important.
·
Need to see actors thinking on stage.
·
Age must be specific
·
Actors must show several emotions
·
Actors must be connected to the show
·
Big on breathing
·
Say names often.
·
Take moments
·
Must see discoveries
·
DICTION
·
Should see actors change emotionally,
physically, mentally
·
Play the opposites – fight against crying. I’m scared – try not to be scared. I’m tired – try not to be tired. I want to cry, but I am not going to.
·
Age - play the age & there should be different ages in crowd scenes.
·
Take moments so that the audience can experience
the lives of the actors.
·
React physically before you react vocally.
·
Need to see a hard life. Must see the difference in each person
·
Plant feet.

Everyone
|
1. We
must believe everyone is listening.
2. Be
sure the show is fresh and new each time you walk on stage.
3. Think
of the emotions you are asked to play.
Write different ways you can express them physically and vocally
without doing the expected.
4. Blocking
problem in the beginning – think it is the opening or redneck scene.
5. Funeral
scene – Run in – sob… people noises- turn slowly as one and sing Shall we
gather at the river.
6. Look
at You Tube – how to do a Louisiana accent.
7. Ending
– slower with the light so we have a great stage picture.
8. Cut
the fog at the end unless we can make it quieter.
|
Willie
|
Let Lucy finish – Willie doesn’t want to run either.
Stare & play with your wedding band when Jack comes in after
Sadie.
Work the alcoholism and make us hate you.
|
Lucy and Willie
|
Figure out a time when Willie can talk to Lucy at the end. We thought about the transition before the
judge scene. Lucy crosses left to right stage and Willie tells Tiny, Sugar
boy, and Sadie to go on and you talk briefly to her on a chance meeting.
|
Hugh
|
Be louder
You had your back to the audience in the redneck scene.
Get a short haircut.
Hat off in the house.
|
Sadie
|
Look at your freezes in the last flash of the hospital scene.
Walk softer.
Take hat off indoors & jacket.
|
Willie and friends
|
When picking Willie up, he needs to be facing the audience – I’ve got
me a gospel.
|
Music
|
We need to add more thunder and rain.
|
Gunshot man
|
Gunshot was late
|
Lights and Dolph
|
The judge did not get behind the scrim before he was dead.
|
Ashlynn
|
Too slow in the opening and you are back to the way you didn’t do
mom. WORK ON IT
|
Rednecks
|
Transition into the scene was too slow.
|
Lucy
|
Watch swaying.
|
Tiny
|
Work on accent – in and out.
|
Jack
|
I don’t give a damn – say it without yelling – see # 3 above.
|
Mother
|
Dressing gown instead of yellow dress in the next to last scene.
|
Adam
|
The jacket – before you enter Willie’s office, check to make sure
that your
lapels are down – talk to Cheyanne. |

I think the performance went really well! We're advancing and I can't wait to perform again with you guys! We just need to fix a couple things and we'll be set for state! I'm so excited that our journey is just beginning!
ReplyDeleteI know we are all getting grouchy but we just need a little time. This play is hard and takes up a lot of our time so when changes are made its easy to get frustrated. If we just give it time and can manage not to kill each other long enough for the changes to get natural we can grow and be better from it
ReplyDeleteSuper exciting that we're advancing, but we can't expect to keep advancing if we don't fix all the problems that they point out, it's only to make us better. From what it looks like the judges are going to be paying a lot of attention to detail so we really need to show emotion with our whole bodies, talk in crowd noises and have leading gestures. It's really going to come down to the small stuff so we need to work on fixing them before it's too late
ReplyDeleteI agree That we should show more emotion to whats being said around the room and show ( If you have more than one character ) to act differently. over all we are on a good track and I know that we are all tired but we can get this play to state
ReplyDeleteI am so excited that we are going on to Bi-District, but definitely have a ways to go. I think one of the hardest things for me, personally, is that we keep going about our scenes, believing that we are doing a wonderful job and then finding out that it was terrible. It is just really frustrating. I hate thinking that I am right and then finding out that I have always been wrong.
ReplyDeleteNow is the time when we can really get ahead of the competition. Most schools that advanced are so excited that the advanced that the forget about their next contest. If we jump right in and get to work we have a better chance of going to area. It has been a long few months, but I don't want to go through all of these practices for nothing.
ReplyDeleteSome people's lines are sounding rehearsaled and flat. Also everyone is starting to anticipate the lines before them
ReplyDeleteSuper excited for bi district! Thank you for what all the judges are looking for! I think we will go far in this comp!
ReplyDeleteYou guys did amazing, though there were a few mistakes, the audience was blown away, I'm really proud of all of you.
ReplyDeleteVery excited we are advancing I understand we are all getting grouchy at each other but we all must work together to improve are play I understand we made it past district but that does not mean we must slack off now
ReplyDeleteAll i have to say is stated above
ReplyDeleteSuper happy we are advancing!! I thought transitions and crowd scenes went so much better!! But we did rush, but we can easily fix that!! Good job everyone!!
ReplyDeleteSince they like stage pictures, we need to make good freezes and stay in character
ReplyDeleteat district I was very proud of our crowed scenes, I think they need to be at least that good every time. the energy was great but we need to learn to keep a constant tempo
ReplyDeleteOne thing I need to work on is finding out how to show other emotions without yelling or raising my voice
ReplyDeleteI need to work on ALWAYS making sure my clothes are fixed perfectly, not only to make them look better but it will add to my character. Judging by the way Adams apartment is set up, he is very organized and cares about how he looks, therefore he would make sure he looked the best that he could look.
ReplyDeleteWe just have to work hard everyday and really work on purpose
ReplyDeleteWe need to realize how much potential we have, and fix the things we need to and move along on the road to state!
ReplyDeleteGreat performance everyone! I think that we do need to work in more small details that will make it just that much better! We need to work in accents and make them constant and not go in and out of them.
ReplyDeleteI really wish I was there to see yall!! I can't wait to see how far we take this!
ReplyDelete-Kylie
The performance was good, but definitely not as good as it could have been. I can't wait to put the changes into place so that we can take our show to the next level. We also have to realize how much we must play to the judges. We know what the judges want. Lets give it to them!
